[Forum FAQ]Favorite contacts disappear on Outlook restart

In Outlook 2013, the Contact section has been changed to People. Its functionality has been vastly improved comparing to the Contact section.

One of the interesting and useful functionalities is that we can pin some contacts to your Favorites for easy access. To do this, right-click on an email address in a message, and then select Add to Favorites from the context menu. After that, we can hover on People if you want to see their contact information:

Or, we can enable the To-Do People Favorites feature to see the favorite contacts. To navigate to this, go to the Outlook Ribbon -> View -> Pull down menu under "To-Do Bar", select People.

This will save much time if a user wants to find a frequent contact while he has many contacts in his Outlook.

Recently, we heard that some people are encountering a problem that the contacts added to Favorites are disappeared after restarting Outlook. This issue would be annoying when people are used to working with the Favorites contact feature.

The Favorites People are stored in your mailbox. Once we add a contact to Favorites, that contact is saved in two locations:

{06967759-274D-40B2-A3EB-D7F9E73727D7}

Container Class:IPF.Contact.MOC.QuickContacts

{A9E2BC46-B3A0-4243-B315-60D991004455}

Container Class:IPF.Contact.MOC.ImContactList

To fix the issue, we need to delete two properties in your mailbox using the MFCMAPI tool.

To do this, please follow the steps below:

1. If you are using Exchange account, please first turn off Cached Exchange mode.

a. Click File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings.

b. Double click your Exchange account to open the Change Account wizard.

c. Clear the check box before Use Cached Exchange Mode.

d. Click Next button.

e. Click Finish.

2. Download MFCMAPI tool from: http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/

3. Launch MFCMAPI tool.

4. Click Sessions > Logon.

5. Choose your Outlook profile and click OK.

6. Double click on your SMTP address.

6. Expand Root Container > Top of Information store > Contacts.

7. Right-click on the GUID mentioned above and select Delete.

Please Note: Deleting these properties clears the Favorites list and possibly the IM contact list. So be careful and do not delete these properties without setting customer expectations.

8. Restart Outlook and the issue should be fixed.
